Brick Slips in The Midlands

The Midlands as a definition incorporates a lot of area, population and culture. From Birmingham in the West, Nottingham and Derby in the North, Lincoln in the East and Leicester and Northampton in the South there are geographical variations that are relevant to brick.

The areas specifically around Birmingham and Leicester have historically been manufacturing sites for bricks, with factories at locations like Kingsbury, Hartlebury, Waresley, Measham and Ibstock to name a few.

Historically these factories have created mostly red or orange-coloured bricks, but also have some buff and yellow variations too. With the increase in national manufacturers, transport networks and large housebuilding companies, bricks aren't generally as geographically different.

Midlands Brick Cladding

If you have an external cladding project, from a new build, a reclad or just a retaining wall, outbuilding or landscaping project, you will be guided more by the local brick types. Depending on the project type you may well need to gain approval from your local planning department on the look of a new facade to ensure it is in keeping with the area. Brick is by far the most approved, widespread and historical cladding material available - and from an aesthetic point there is no difference between brick slips and traditional laid full bricks.

We not only have a large selection of various colours and textures to choose from on our website, but you can always contact us and send an image over of your property, or surrounding properties for us to match the brickwork. We are able to cut slips from over 200 different bricks so it's overwhelmingly likely that there will be something for you.

Internal Brick Slips in the Midlands

Whilst the local brickwork may act as inspiration, it doesn't necessarily need to be repeated internally. For the most part you can choose the blend of brick slip. People don't usually associate the bricks they see internally with what is external - either a different brick, stonework or render - it's just seen by itself.

Of course if the building is listed this will be different and approval may well be needed, and some commercial properties may also have an approval process to go through.

From an aesthetic point of view, whether in a kitchen, bathroom, as a feature wall or flooring you can choose the style you want. Whilst the midlands historically has had more red brick from local factories, our reclaimed collection of cream brick slips, brown brick slips and yellow brick slips are also incredibly popular. People in and around the midlands often choose the pre-aged, rustic charm of our reclaimed collection to create a timeless look.

The reality of internal use though is that they can be used anywhere, and the aesthetic choices of which blend and which colour mortar are entirely down to you.
