Old Brick Qualities, New Brick Quality

Our Reclaimed Collection is made to replicate old bricks, weathered by time and the elements, meaning they start off being timeless.

Reclaimed Bricks are difficult to get hold of, and so quite expensive- you also can't guarantee the manufacturing quality from the time. Therefore our range is created from bricks made as new under current European quality standards, and in line with the Brickmaker's Quality Charter. These bricks are then tumbled around with different materials to create the exact same effects you'd get on aged bricks- dried on plaster for example. These are then cut into brick slips to be ready for your walls, making them from full bricks means they retain the character that is literally baked in when they're moulded.

Embrace The Imperfections

As the reclaimed collection are all tumbled bricks, they come in various shapes. The tumbling means corners can be knocked off, chunks can be missing and some of the slips may be slightly shorter due to whole edges missing. This is all part of the reclaimed look, please make sure you spread the most misshapen ones around (as with the different colour variations) as this will enhance your project, where one has a corner or edge knocked off, you'll need slightly more mortar to fill that gap- just as it would be in an old wall.

If you think on delivery that some of the slips are chipped, this is possible of course, check the box for the missing part to see if this was part of the look or it has been broken in transit, but even so, it could still look perfectly at home on the wall with the rest.

If your installation is being done by a tiler who doesn't have much experience with brick slips, you may want to make them aware of this, to ensure they don't leave these ones out and end up either short or having to use them all next to each other.

The Rustic Look

In order to continue the rustic brick wall effect that the reclaimed collection brings, there are a couple of things to think about- the installation effort and the mortar.

Installing the reclaimed brick slips is not an exact science- it's worth checking that everything is roughly level, but they are made to give a rustic look. Imperfections are what make the whole look so don't get hung up and frustrated by the shapes, this does allow a much larger tolerance for a DIYer to be able to produce a superb final project too.

We would recommend either a recessed/raked mortar joint to complement the range, or a flush joint as if old brickwork had been re-pointed, however, this is up to you.

What Else Do I Need?

In order to complete your brick slip wall, you'll need bonding primer, adhesive, spacers and mortar. These are all available in our accessories section, or from the bottom of each product page.

You'll also need a tile cutter or angle grinder, notched trowel for applying the adhesive, and a mortar gun or similar for pointing them, as well as a jointing tool for finishing.
